Eight Historic Triangle cross-country teams competed in the Milestat.com XC Invitational at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville on Saturday.
The meet is one of the largest in the state, featuring roughly 100 public and private schools of varying size and enrollments.
In the boys varsity A race, Grafton finished fifth overall with 229 points. Warhill finished in 15th place with 343 points, while Lafayette took 16th place with 396 points. Tabb rounded out the Historic Triangle schools with a 20th-place finish and 458 points.
Lafayette’s Konrad Steck had the best day of local runners, finished ninth overall in a time of 15:31. Grafton’s Price Owens was next, placing 19th in a time of 15:52.
Warhill’s Daniel Cretney took 24th place with a time of 15:59, while Grafton’s Dylan Lorio-MacNamara was 26th with a time of 16:04. Tabb’s Preston Klekar finished 35th overall in a time of 16:14.
Matthew Hrncir of Warhill was 41st with a time of 16:19, and Grafton’s Miles Owens just earned top-50 honors with a 49th-place finish in a time of 16:25.
In the boys varsity B race, Walsingham Academy finished in 19th place, and Jamestown was 16th with 370 points.
The Trojans were led by Mathias Cannon, who took 10th place in a time of 16:34, and Jack Grimson, who was 25th in a time of 17:03. Jamestown was led by Calvin Hart, who was 54th with a time of 17:37.
Bruton and York represented the Historic Triangle in the boys varsity C race. The Falcons took ninth place with 279 points, and Bruton was 11th with 323 points.
Curt Ivanoff of Bruton won the race with a time of 17:08, while York’s Noah Fields took 20th in a time of 17:57. Fields’ teammate Liam Kempton was 41st with a time of 18:28, and Bruton’s Garrett Turner took 50th in a time of 18:38.
In the girls varsity A race, Lafayette finished 14th overall with 386 points, while Tabb took 17th with 447 points. Grafton took 20th with 468 points, and Walsingham Academy was 24th with 586 points.
Tabb’s Lindsey Blanks continued her strong start to the season with a second-place finish in a time of 18:03. Delaney Savedge of Lafayette was 21st in a time of 18:41, and her teammate Brooke Crookston was 53rd with a time of 19:30.
Grafton was paced by Kira Freedman, who took 59th place with a time of 19:37, while Walsingham was led by Camryn Mann in 86th place with a time of 20:06.
In the girls varsity B race, Jamestown was the only Historic Triangle team to compete. The Eagles finished 13th with 331 points.
Warhill, which did not field enough runners to place as a team, had a runner — Hannah Hrncir — place in the top 10. Hannah Hrncir took eighth place in a time of 19:39. Kathleen Yates led Jamestown with a 27th-place finish in a time of 20:33.
In the varsity girls C race, both Bruton and York did not have enough runners finish to place as a team. Despite not placing as teams, both schools had runners place well as individuals.
Bruton’s Kaitlyn Ardrey took second place in a time of 20 minutes flat, while York’s Lori Priety was ninth in a time of 21:05. Bruton’s Rachel Brotherton was 18th with a time of 21:36.
