WILLIAMSBURG — 16-year-old Geremiah DelValle of Lafayette High School is the author of “Lands of Scientia,” a book about three middle school friends and their journey to save an island from evil.
The book is filled with facts about science designed to both entertain and educate its readers.
“I really wanted to help kids get into reading and understand science easier,” DelValle explained. “Science always came easy to me but it didn’t other kids. I wanted to make it easy for those kids and help them find the motive to learn science and read.”
The book has been out for a year, over the course of which, DelValle and his family have attended a number of events to promote it, including RVA LitFest in Richmond, the Juneteenth Festival in Williamsburg, and the Essence Festival 2023 in New Orleans.
Delvalle is a recipient of the Youth Entrepreneur Award, while the book won in the education category for the Black Authors Children’s Book Award due to its scientific content.
He plans to keep on writing, working on the second book in the series as well as possibly turning “Land of Scientia” into a movie. Though he notes he plans on going to college after high school, there are a few paths he is considering — science, business, and writing.
Aside from writing, DelValle has a wide array of interests, including music and sports. The honor student is the oldest of five children and wants to continue to be a good roll model for his younger siblings.
Hampton Roads VegFest in Hampton is the next stop for Delvalle’s promotional tour. For more information, visit the Angel Armies official website.
