JAMES CITY COUNTY 一 Applause rang out at the Sept. 8 James City County Board of Supervisors meeting after an announcement was made about a rezoning proposal for Cardinal Ridge, a proposed residential and business community.
“I wanted to let folks know that the applicants for Cardinal Ridge have withdrawn their application, so we will not be hearing that case tonight,” said John McGlennon, the Chair for the JCC Board of Supervisors.
Following the announcement, attendees broke into applause before beginning to file out of the meeting room.
The proposal asked that zoning for Cardinal Ridge, an area alongside Ironbound Road and owned by Eastern State Hospital, be changed from public land to mixed-use development. The plan for the project included 264 apartments, 175 townhomes and 304 single-family lots with multiple amenities and parks, a marketplace district and a site for Colonial Behavioral Health.
The reason for the withdrawal was not given during the meeting. A call to a D.R. Horton representative seeking comment was not returned. James City County officials declined to comment on the decision.
Afterward, the board issued a proclamation recognizing September as National Service Dog Month.
