Robert L. Bickley, known as Bob, Dad and Granddaddy, 89, of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026.
Born on May 4, 1937, in Richmond, Virginia, Robert lived a life marked by faith, devotion to family, quiet strength, and service to others. He was the beloved son of the late Bernie and Mary Bickley.
Robert was a graduate of Craddock High School and attended Old Dominion University, receiving his HVAC certification. He retired as the HVAC Sales Department Manager from Noland Company after many years of dedicated service. He also proudly served his country in the United States Navy Reserve.
A faithful member of Emmaus Baptist Church, Robert’s Christian faith guided his life. He found great joy in volunteering with Meals on Wheels, where he faithfully served others in his community. Bob had a green thumb, enjoyed boating, watching college and professional sports and never missed his daily Bible reading.
Robert was a devoted husband and beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He shared 61 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Sarah Fidelis Bickley, whose memory he cherished following her passing. Their marriage was an example of enduring love, faithfulness, and commitment.
Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sarah F. Bickley; parents, Bernie and Mary Bickley; infant son, David; his infant twin sister, Rosemary; his older brother, Bernie Leroy Bickley Jr.; and his siblings, Joseph Bickley, Ernest Bickley, and Shirley Ann Bickley.
He is lovingly survived by his devoted daughter, Deborah Delosreyes and her husband, Ed; his grandchildren, Robert “Trae” (Jay), Christopher (Alana), and Colby; his step-grandchildren, Caitlyn (Tyler) and Camryn (Alexia); and his great-grandchildren, Robert “Dru”, Ryder, and Bryer.
He is also survived by his brothers, John Bickley and James Bickley (Brenda); and his sisters, Naomi Burchett, Ruth Edwards (Larry), Martha Hutto, and Mary Volk (Kitt), along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Those who knew Robert will remember his fun spirit and smile, unwavering faith and love for his family. He especially will be remembered for the loving care he gave his wife throughout their 61-year marriage. He faced life’s challenges with courage, patience, and unwavering faith, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, integrity, perseverance, and sacrificial love that will continue to inspire all who knew him. He had fond memories of his career, the neighbors and kids of Westover, living on Lambs Creek and his cherished friends Jim Campbell and Larry Helms.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 4, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at his daughter’s home. A graveside service celebrating Robert’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 5, at 11:00 a.m. at Olive Branch Cemetery in Portsmouth, Virginia. A private reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Williamsburg Area Meals on Wheels.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Joel Jones, Robert’s longtime physician, for his compassionate care and dedication over the years. They also extend their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Riverside Regional Hospital and Patriot’s Colony for the kindness, dignity, and exceptional care they provided during Robert’s final days. Your compassion and support brought comfort to both Robert and his family, and your kindness will never be forgotten.
