Dennis Gene Lykins, 76, of Williamsburg, Virginia died on Friday, July 17, 2026 at home.

He was born in Canal City, Kentucky, the son of Carl Lykins and Norma G. Lykins (Woodka). He was a graduate of West Point High School, West Point, Nebraska. Upon graduation he joined the US Navy and was honorably discharged. He served on the USS Opportune (ARS-41).

For most of his working career he was employed as a brewer at Anheuser Busch, Williamsburg. Upon retirement he became a commercial waterman fishing gill nets on the James and York Rivers.

His favorite hobbies included hunting, fishing, and vegetable gardening. He enjoyed fresh and salt water fishing. He especially enjoyed winning bass tournaments. He had an obsession for deer and turkey hunting. His membership with Laf-A-Lot Rod and Gun Club fueled these passions. He shared much of his vegetable bounty with neighbors and friends. Dennis was a member of the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club helping to maintain trails. He was also a member of the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Kathryn (Kathy) Henshaw Lykins. A daughter Carrie Lykins Rogers (Lynwood) and granddaughter Skylar. A son, Chad Scott Lykins (Amber) and grandsons Cypress and River.

Services will be held at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, 215 Richmond Road on Saturday, August 1, at 1:00. Reception following in the Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Hunters for the Hungry or your favorite charity.
