Eileen Marie (Platt) Gryn, 77, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026, in Gloucester, Virginia. Born on March 15, 1949, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Eileen lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Eileen graduated from John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls’ High School in Philadelphia before earning her bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science from Temple University later in life as a non-traditional student. Her intelligence and dedication were evident throughout her life, both in her professional pursuits as an underwriter and in her personal endeavors and hobbies.
She was the beloved wife of Ronald Gryn for 52 years, and a devoted mother to Kate Gryn, Ron Gryn and wife Lauren, and Maggie Codella and husband PJ. Eileen’s greatest joy were her grandchildren—Zach, Tyler, Ve, Nate, Milo, and Tayo. She also left behind her siblings Joe Platt, Peggy Polensky, Maryellen Nye, and Kathy Mancini. She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Peg Platt and her sister Betty Appolonio.
Eileen was known for her sharp wit and a laugh that could lighten any room. A resident of The Villages (Village of Ashland) in Florida during her later years, Eileen was formerly an active member of St. Jude’s Parish in Chalfont, Pennsylvania, a frequent volunteer at many school events for her children, scouting events, and food kitchen events.
Eileen enjoyed reading a variety of genres, attending live theatre -especially musicals, embarking on road trips and travels that broadened her horizons, trips to museums that let her soak in history and culture, solving puzzles that challenged her mind, and most importantly, spending quality time with friends and family.
Eileen’s legacy is one of kindness, intelligence, humor, and unwavering love for those around her. Her memory will forever be treasured by those fortunate enough to have shared in her remarkable journey.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Eileen’s memory to the National Centre for Padre Pio, a cause close to Eileen’s heart, or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
