Curtis Harlow, 89, of Newport News, Virginia, passed away on July 27, 2026, surrounded by the people he loved.
Curtis lived a life defined by hard work, love for his family, and a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years before beginning a 35-year career at Newport News Shipbuilding, where he earned the respect of his co-workers through his dedication and work ethic.
Curtis found happiness in traveling to the mountains, which was the landscape he grew up in, where he loved taking in the peaceful sunrises and beautiful sunsets. He loved singing karaoke (mainly Family Tradition by Hank Williams, Jr.) at the Moose Lodge. He was an avid cook who was especially known for his homemade fruitcake, he made every Christmas, soups, and peanut butter fudge, which became favorite recipes always requested by family and friends.
He will be remembered for his laugh, kindness, strength, love for his family, and the fun memories he created with those he loved. His memory will live on in the stories and hearts of all who knew him.
Curtis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Harlow. Parents June and Harvey Harlow, Siblings: Shannon Harlow, H.E Harlow., Linda Allison and Susie Harlow. He is survived by his fiancée, Helen Reaves; his children, Joyce Corriere, Jeffrey (Lauri) Harlow, and David (Susanne) Harlow; his grandchildren, Karen Nuckols (Jason), Brittany, Rachael, Jenna, and Logan Harlow; and his two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Dorothy Crabtree (Ron), Bobby Harlow, Gary Harlow (Patty), and Jody Jacobsen (Steve), along with many other extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 8, 2026 at the Newport News Moose Lodge, 2307 60th St, Hampton VA.
