Philip A. Bondi Sr., formerly of Sharpsburg and Moon Township, passed away peacefully at his home in Virginia Beach surrounded by family on May 22, 2026.
Born in 1940, Philip graduated from high school before proudly fulfilling a two-year commitment in the United States Army. He later married the love of his life, Nell Gay Bondi (Preece), with whom he shared 62 devoted years of marriage.
Philip loved his family deeply and lived with a steadfast faith in Jesus Christ. A true gentleman, he was known for his kindness, quiet strength, and warm sense of humor. In retirement, Philip and Nell Gay enjoyed many adventures together, including traveling, fishing, attending train shows, and spending cherished time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Some of the family’s fondest memories were made gathered around the dinner table, where Philip would often smile and say, “not getting old today.”
He will be profoundly missed by his family and friends, whose hearts find comfort in the unwavering faith that he is now at peace in Heaven, embraced lovingly in the arms of Jesus.
Philip is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Nell Gay Bondi; his children, Philip A. Bondi Jr. (Annie) and Jeanne E. Bondi-Sumrok (John); his grandchildren, Philip A. Bondi III (Jessica), Kyle C. Bondi (Megan), Rachel J. Bondi, and Nathaniel J. Sumrok; and his great-grandchildren, Philip A. Bondi IV and Gianna B. Bondi. He is also survived by his brothers, August “Gus” Bondi and James “Jim” Bondi (Coleen); his sisters, Micheline Finley and Ida Jean Bondi; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Maria; his parents, August and Josephine Bondi; his brother, Anthony J. Bondi; his favorite uncle, Philip M. Battaglia; and his beloved daughter-in-law, Brenda S. Bondi.
The family welcomes your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Condolences may be left here.
