Katherine Ann Scott, 61, of Gloucester

Katherine Ann Scott (Weymouth Funeral Home & Crematory)

Katherine Ann Scott, 61, of Gloucester, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2026, due to complications from surgery, surrounded by her loved ones in her final moments. She was a beloved daughter, mother, sister, grammy and friend.

Kathy was born in Colorado Springs to Hannelore and Hollis Scott. As a daughter of an Army Pilot, she grew up all around the country even spending a few childhood years in Alaska. Eventually, the family settled in Newport News, Virginia, where she graduated from Denbigh High School. Kathy began working at the Garden Gallery Florist, a local family-owned business, where she perfected her art to become a talented floral designer. The flower shop was more like a second home for the younger generation growing up, and we all share wonderful memories of our time there.

Later in life, Katherine helped the family grow, raising a son and daughter, James and Arianna. She continued to take great care of her mother in Gloucester, where she always welcomed the entire family over for the wonderful meals she would prepare. Well-versed in everything from grilled meat to extravagant desserts, Kathy always made a gathering feel like home.

She is survived by her mother, Hannelore Scott; her daughter, Arianna Swearengin; her son, James Hendrick (his wife, Megan and their son, Hollis – named after his great-grandfather, Kathy’s father); her sister, Susan Post, who was always by her side. Susan remembers Kathy as not just a sister but a best friend with whom she could share this life. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law, Scott; her nephews, Scotty and Joanna, who always seemed closer to brothers and sisters; and Kathy’s lifelong friend and adopted brother, Miles, who will always have a place in her heart and a spot in her family.

Kathy will be remembered for having fun with loved ones and living life to the fullest. Whether traveling to the OBX for beach week, catching a rock and roll concert with her sister or watching scary movies, Kathy made life a blast for those around her.

Kathy will always be remembered for her love and compassion that she shared not only with family but with anybody that was lucky enough to know her. She made a huge impact on her family and her legacy of love will carry on in her loved ones for generations to come. We will miss her greatly and are blessed for the time we were able to share together.

A Memorial Service will held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026 at Weymouth Funeral Home.
