Freddie Leon Wallace (Whiting’s Funeral Home)

On the morning of August 9, 2026, God, in His infinite wisdom, sent His angels to peacefully call Freddie Leon Wallace from his earthly home to his eternal resting place. He was born on February 26, 1939, to the late Morris and Virginia Wallace.

Affectionately known by family and friends as “Buddy Row” and “Hawk Eye,” Freddie grew up in Toano, Virginia, where he began his education at St. John School on Forge Road. He later attended Chickahominy School on Chickahominy Road and Bruton Heights School in Williamsburg, Virginia, graduating with the Class of 1959.

Freddie is also preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Wallace. Freddie leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of sixty-three years, Rosa Wallace; his children, Aaron Wallace (Patricia), Zelda Moore (Ronald), and Lisa Walker (Clint); six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his son and daughter, Leon Simpson and Carletha Hawkins, and their children; two sisters, Bernice Owens and Peggy Hopson (George); two aunts; and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends.

Freddie was a dedicated and hardworking man who built a long and successful career at the College of William & Mary, where he worked in the Mailroom and Print Shop. Through his commitment and strong work ethic, he advanced to the position of Service Supervisor, a role he held until his retirement.

Freddie was also a faithful member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, where he willingly shared his time and talents. He lifted his voice in praise as a member of the Male Chorus and worked diligently with the Hospitality Committee. Freddie remained devoted to his church and its ministries until his health began to decline.

Outside of his work and church service, Freddie enjoyed sports and played softball with the Toano Giants. He was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He also treasured the special bonds of friendship he shared with William Braxton, Adolphus Richards, and Elliott Rice. These friendships, along with the love of his family, brought much joy and fellowship to his life.

Freddie’s life was one of dedication—to his family, his work, his church, and the people he loved. Though his earthly journey has ended, the memories he created, the love he shared, and the lives he touched will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

His legacy will live on through his family, and his memory will forever be cherished.
