Jack Theodore Kanakaris, 78, born in Brooklyn, NY, passed peacefully on Friday May 8, 2026 at Riverside Regional Medical Center.
One could say he was a “Jack” of all Trades: Director for Channel 67, worked at Newport News Shipbuilding, proprietor of Alexis Fine Dining in Virginia Beach and operated the audio equipment at Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church.
Jack enjoyed smoking his pipe, sailing (early on in his life), cooking and criticizing others’ cooking – just for fun. He loved his Church, telling stories and socializing with friends.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Jennifer and her husband, Michael; grandchildren, Austin and Summer; his son, Theodore and his wife, Christine; grandchildren, Braden and Zachary; his daughter, Grace; his brother, William and his wife, Hester; his extended family of Cousins and his dear friend, Marguerite.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday May 21, 2026 at Weymouth Funeral Home in Newport News, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Cancer Society or Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 60 Traverse Rd, Newport News, VA 23606.
