Robert Arnold Halpern, 85, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was born on February 18, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York.
Robert devoted his professional life to serving both his community and his country. He worked faithfully for many years with the United States Postal Service, where he was known for his strong work ethic until his retirement. Following his retirement from the USPS, Robert continued working in several roles, including as a security guard and engineering assistant. He also proudly served for a period of time in the National Guard, reflecting his lifelong sense of duty and commitment to others.
Throughout his life, Robert appreciated every opportunity and never took life for granted. As a federal employee, husband, father, and provider, he lived with integrity, responsibility, and compassion. Above all else, Robert loved his two sons deeply and devoted his life to guiding, protecting, and supporting them in every way he could.
Later in life, Robert became a deeply religious man, converting from Judaism to Christianity. His faith became an important part of his life, and he devoted many years to the church and to helping those in need. He was a true “people person” and deep thinker who enjoyed conversations with others, sharing stories, offering advice, and passing along the life lessons he had learned through the years.
Robert also had a passion for collecting coins, stamps, and antiques, eventually turning his hobby into a small home business that brought him great enjoyment. His curiosity, knowledge, and enthusiasm for history and treasured items were well known among family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Halpern; his parents, Rose and Myron Halpern; and his sister, Gail. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Robert is survived by his loving sons, who carry forward the values, love, and guidance he shared with them throughout his life.
A memorial service celebrating Robert’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462.
Robert will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Though he is no longer with us in person, his spirit, wisdom, faith, and enduring love will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
