Charles Edward Mann, 85, of Virginia Beach

Charles Edward Mann, a dedicated serviceman, educator, and cherished family member, passed away on May 4, 2026, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Born on November 10, 1940, in Birmingham, Alabama, Charles lived a life marked by service, learning, and passion.

Charles graduated from the Naval Academy in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. His commitment to education continued as he pursued a Master’s degree at Duke University. Following his academic achievements, Charles embarked on a distinguished 20-year career in the military. During his service, he not only fulfilled his duties with honor but also shared his knowledge by teaching at the Naval Academy. After retiring from the military, Charles transitioned into a successful career as a contractor for several decades. In recent years, he returned to his love of teaching and began sharing his expertise with students at Tidewater Community College.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Charles was deeply involved in his community and personal pursuits. A lifelong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, he remained active in scouting throughout his life. Photography was another passion that brought him joy; he loved capturing moments through the lens and developing his own pictures. His faith was an integral part of his life as well. He was an active member of the Episcopal Church and found great fulfillment singing in the choir.

Charles is survived by his three children: Cynthia, Laura, and Andrew; as well as five beloved grandchildren who brought him immense pride and happiness.

Charles Mann will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to service, education, and community. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and inspire others to live with purpose and generosity.

A memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church 5181 Singleton Way in Virginia Beach on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 11:00am.
