Clarence Ashton Thumm III, born in East Orange, New Jersey on July 29, 1943, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on March 19, 2025, in Williamsburg, Virginia.
A graduate of Delbarton School in Morristown, New Jersey, Ash attended Fairfield University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree before starting a career in the labeling industry, most notably with Owens-Illinois. Ash enjoyed reading, history, puzzles, travel, and time with his family. He is survived by Isabelle, his beloved wife of 58 years, and their children: Ashton Thumm and his wife Melanie; Meghan Mackey and her husband Kim; Sarah Wilmoth and her husband Richard. Ash is also survived by his sister Eileen Wells and her partner Bob Leffler.
Ash rejoiced in his nine grandchildren and their partners, his first great-grandchild, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29 at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Williamsburg, Virginia.
