Samuel Mark Van Curon, affectionately known as “Mark” or “Uncle Mark,” passed away on March 16, 2025, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at the age of 77. Born on April 10, 1947, in Harlan, Kentucky, to Helen and Samuel Craig Van Curon, Mark was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Joy Sue Van Curon Blanton, who passed away in 2018.
Despite facing intellectual challenges, Mark’s joyful spirit and love for life’s simple pleasures were evident to all who knew him. He delighted in superheroes like Spider-Man and Batman, enjoyed shopping trips to Kroger, and cherished dining out. Holidays held a special place in his heart, with Christmas being his favorite, followed closely by Thanksgiving, which he loved for the abundance of food. Mark had a calm demeanor, enjoyed watching “The Andy Griffith Show,” and had a deep affection for dogs.
A member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Frankfort, Kentucky, Mark’s faith was an integral part of his life. His gentle nature and ability to find joy in everyday moments left an indelible mark on his family and friends.
Mark is survived by his nephew, Craig Blanton, and his wife, Theresa, along with their children: Jacob Blanton and his wife, Madeline, and their children, Jacqueline, Allison, and Charlie. He is also survived by his niece, Paula, and her husband, SFC Karl H. Dalton, United States Army Retired, and their children: Karl “Kloss” Dalton and his wife, Jessica, and their children, Aubrey and Caleb; and Ashlynn A. Dalton.
