Peggy Linkous Sawyer, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, went to be with the Lord on February 16, 2025, at the age of 84.
Native to Blacksburg, Virginia, Peggy spent 66 years of her life on the Peninsula, where she raised her family and became a cherished member of her community.
Peggy was married to Melvin Sawyer, for 65 years. Together, they built a life grounded in faith, love, and devotion. Peggy was a devoted Christian and a member of Petsworth Baptist Church, where her unwavering faith and kind spirit left a lasting impact on her church family and all who knew her.
As a homemaker, Peggy’s greatest joy was raising her children—Melvin Harold Sawyer (Kim), Mary Katherine Hoover (Pat), and Timothy David Sawyer (Kinky). She poured her heart into caring for them and creating a warm, loving home. Peggy’s legacy as a loving and nurturing mother carried over to her 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. To them, she was affectionately known as “Grammy,” a name that will forever remind them of her boundless love, wisdom, and kindness.
In addition to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Peggy is survived by a host of extended family and friends who will deeply miss her presence.

Peggy Linkous Sawyer now rests in the arms of her Savior, and her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her loved ones.
