Marjorie Barber Urrutia passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025, at her home. She had just celebrated her 101st birthday surrounded by her family. Marjorie was the last of 7 brothers and sisters.
Marjorie attended Morrison High School in Newport News, VA (currently known as Warwick High). She was a homemaker, who in her spare time loved to garden. She was a member of The Garden Club of Newport News and The Junior Woman’s Club of Hilton Village.
Marjorie was proud of her family. She enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, Huyke, throughout his work.
Marjorie was fiercely independent. Since the passing of her husband, She lived alone, cut her own grass and continued to prune her bushes.
She never needed aides or nurses; she took care of herself until the end. Marjorie will be remembered by her family as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Marjorie was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Huyke B. Urrutia and her daughter, Diane Urrutia. She is survived by her son, Huyke B. Urrutia, Jr of Newport News; her grandson, Huyke B. Urrutia, III and, wife, Katie and her great-grandchildren, Emma Rae and Dalton Huyke Urrutia.
