It with profound sadness and heavy hearts that that we announce the passing of Philip Jennings – a Husband, Father, Brother, Grandpa, Papa and friend. He passed away unexpectedly while peacefully sleeping in his favorite chair with his favorite blanket. His loss has left a void that will never be filled, but memories of him will be held close to our hearts forever.
Phil was born in Exeter, England on April 5, 1949. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1972, was a member of Phi Delta Theta and remained a loyal Gamecock fan over the years. He started his own business with State Farm in 1986 and became one of the most dedicated agents, receiving dozens of awards over the next 26 years. He retired in 2012 and spent the rest of his life as a loyal Grandpa/Papa to his 11 grandchildren, who he loved fiercely and unconditionally.
He was intelligent, had astonishing wisdom, and was a mentor to not only his children, but many other people over the years. He was talented at everything he did and prided himself on hard work. He was always humble, lived simply, and never cared about the materialism of the world. His priority was always love and time with his family.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Launa Jennings. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Pamela Jennings, his brother, Mark Jennings (Mary), his children Lindsey Sawyer (Adam), Rachel McBride (Rob) and Philip Jennings II (Amy) and his precious grandchildren, Hannah, Caleb, Samuel, Grace, Graham, Brody, Kipton, Tucker, Levi, Jacob and Isaac. Pamela and Phil celebrated their 50-year anniversary on November 15, 2023, with their entire family.
His wishes were that his life be celebrated without a formal service. In his honor, he would want you to donate to the Virginia Beach Volunteer Emergency Medical Services, who helped him out several times in the last few months. He would also want you to toast him with a glass of wine in his honor. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date
