Barbara Poma, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend passed away on February 20, 2024. Barbara’s love for her family was first and foremost. Her circle of close friends, who were like family to her, also brought joy and companionship into her life.
Barbara was known for entertaining, playing cards, and baking. No one visited without taking something sweet home with them. Some of Barbara’s most cherished memories were spending time in Maine and enjoying time away with family on the water. During her retirement years, she dedicated her time as a volunteer in the Williamsburg Community, especially at Saint Bede, where she found community and solace in her religious faith.
Barbara is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John H. Poma, who was the light of her life and whom she never stopped missing. She is survived by her three sons, John M. (Mary Beth), Dennis S. (Fran), and Michael R. (Rebecca); her sister, Theresa (Ed) Scott and their children Lauren, Kevin and wife Ashley; grandchildren, J.C. (Jennifer), Kirstin (Ashton), Caroline, Kyle, Michael Ryan, Matthew, and Andrew; and two great-grandsons.
A service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024 at St. Bede Catholic Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:30 a.m. prior to the funeral mass at 12:30 p.m. A reception will follow mass. The internment will take place at the St. Bede Columbarium after the reception. Click here to watch the livestream.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Barbara’s memory to St. Bede Catholic Church, specifically for the Columbarium Beautification. Barbara’s legacy of love, family, and generosity will continue to inspire those who knew her.
