David Albert Pritchett II, 81, of Virginia Beach

David Albert Pritchett II passed away Saturday November 4, 2023 at his Virginia Beach home. He was born August 19, 1942 in Mullens, WV, the son of Roger and Beatrice Pritchett.

David graduated from Mullens High School in 1960 and attended Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, WV for a year of postgraduate school. He attended Lenoir Rhine College, East Tennessee State, and holds a degree from Alderson Broaddus College in Phillipi, WV where he met and married his wife, Judith.

David was passionate about basketball, devoting his life to it as a player, coach, and scout. He impacted many players’ lives, through his work. A storehouse of basketball knowledge, he was a nationally recognized recruiter, evaluator of talent, and was quoted by many authors and journalists.

He coached at the college and professional levels. He coached at Bluefield State, Boston College, the University of Maryland, Davidson College (head coach), Oral Roberts University, and finished his career coaching in the NBA with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Besides his parents, David is predeceased by his granddaughter Morgan Alexis Pritchett. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Judith; three sons Roger William (Suzy), David Albert (Ginny) and Charles Edward (Charlie); four grandchildren Connor, Caroline, Matthew and Jason; two great grandchildren Grayson and Rosemary; and a sister Rebekah Yeargo (Bill).

A celebration of his life will be held in the future.
