John “Jack” Foster Bryant, Jr., 100, died March 27, 2023, at Warwick Forest.
He was born in Camden, NJ to Harriett Florence Smith and John Foster Bryant, Sr. Jack’s family moved to Raleigh, NC where he attended elementary and high school. After graduating from Broughton High School, he enrolled at North Carolina State University. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, the swimming team and the Army ROTC. In 1942, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, serving his country in Europe during WWII.
He returned home to Raleigh after the end of the war and earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from NC State. After graduating, he moved to Hampton, VA where he worked for the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) that later became NASA. At NACA, Jack met Barbara Wylie and they were married on April 20, 1950 spending 64 years together before her passing in 2014.
Jack is predeceased by his wife, his parents and his sister, Betty Bryant Stansel. Surviving are his five children, Linda Bryant Curry (Haywood), Ellen Bryant McCoy (Lynn), Janet Bryant Gartlan (Pete), John Foster Bryant, III (Liz) and Anne Bryant McDaniels (Randy); 10 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
