NEWPORT NEWS — David Christopher Keniston went home to be with the Lord on the evening of March 14th, 2022, in Newport News Virginia. He was 60 years old.

He was born on December 30, 1961, in Newport, RI to Robert W. Keniston of Portland, ME and Margaret Elizabeth Keniston, née Rosenberger of Medford, MA. David was the youngest of five children, and was raised in Alexandria, Virginia. He attended Schools in both Alexandria and Falls Church, but grew up to see the world and live throughout the United States.

David was a man who lived life to the fullest, whether out in the garden and growing food all summer to share with his neighbors, or in the kitchen, nourishing his family and friends with meals made with love and care. He always understood and appreciated the crafts of others, keeping busy designing and building, filling the world with the bright colors of tie-dye, always pursuing life’s truths by reading and always continuing to learn, and sharing the right songs to start the day.

He wore many hats throughout his life, moving into the left seat after flying for Lake Mead Air, Horizon Air, and Gemini Air Cargo; or helping to make the world a better place while wearing his Phrygian cap and making the world a better place in our nation’s capital, speaking before Congress for DC statehood.

David is survived by his loving wife, Dana Keniston, as well as by his children, Laine Keniston, Devon Keniston, William Keniston, Brett Keniston; stepsons, Jacob Martin and Hunter Martin; the mother of his children, Lynne Keniston; life-long friend, Annette Shepperd and her daughter, Natalie Battaglia; his siblings, Robert Keniston, Jr., and wife Susie; Peggy Cushwa, and husband Kurt, Nancy May, and husband John, and Paul Keniston, and his fur family: the Mighty Quinn, Lucy, and Super Sonic, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

His father, CDR Robert W. Keniston, and his mother, Margaret Elizabeth Keniston, preceded him in death.

He will always be loved.

A celebration of David’s life will be held on Friday, March 25th at 2 pm at Water’s Edge Church, Newport News, 836 J. Clyde Morris Blvd, Newport News, VA, 23601. Flowers can be sent to 206 Hensley Drive, Newport News, 23602. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
