Jeffrey Lee Whitaker, 59, of Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG — Jeffrey Lee Whitaker, 59, passed away at his home on Friday, March 18, 2022 after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Jeff was born in Chelsea, MA and graduated from Fairview High School in Pennsylvania and played varsity baseball and was the lead guitarist in a rock and roll band. He graduated from Slippery Rock University where he played soccer. He was an avid skier and worked at Wintergreen Ski Resort as a ski instructor before moving to the Tidewater area in his early 20’s. He worked in the insurance and financial industry throughout his career. Jeff dedicated his life to community involvement and helping others. He was a member of the Jaycee’s, served as President of The Rotary Club of Oyster Point, served on the board of the Victory Family YMCA and was a volunteer with The First Tee. He became an advocate for Donate Life America after being given a second chance at life when he was a recipient of an organ donation. He was a member of James River Country Club where he oversaw the Junior Golf Program. Jeff was an avid golfer; his fondest memory was a trip to Scotland with his father and brother.

Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Karl Whitaker. Jeff loved his family and is survived by his devoted daughter, Courtney Whitaker and her husband, Alex Holliday of West Palm Beach, FL; his mother, Carol Whitaker of Simpsonville, SC; his 3 brothers, Kent Whitaker of New York, NY, Mark Whitaker of Washington DC and Dan Whitaker of Beijing, China and Courtney’s mom, Annie Whitaker. He will be fondly remembered as a good neighbor and friend.

Friends and family will gather for a Celebration of His Life at 4:00p.m on Friday, March 25, 2022 at the James River Country Club.
