YORK COUNTY — Harry M. Register, Sr., 81, died peacefully Thursday February 17, 2022. Harry had a great love for the Lord and his Family. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Yorktown.
Harry was a 1959 graduate of Warwick High School and a 1963 Graduate of the Apprentice School at Newport News Shipbuilding. Harry retired as a Master Shipbuilder after 40 years of service.
Harry was a mission board member, Sunday school Treasurer, Awana commander, Awana Olympic Coach and Judge, and men’s softball coach for Denbigh Baptist Church in Newport News. Harry loved sports. He played and coached baseball and softball. He coached pony and colt leagues, American Legion Post 25 and he was an assistant coach for Apprentice School baseball.
Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle; his parents, John and Virginia Register; and his brother, Wayne Register. Harry is survived by his three children, Nancy Willoughby (Rodney Sr.) of Hampton, Susan Goodwin (Charlie) of Edenton NC, and Harry Jr. (Lori) of Poquoson; his 6 grandsons, Rodney Jr., Ryan (Abby), Ross and Ricky Willoughby, Zachary and Brady Register; his sisters, Hilda Overman (Melvin) and Brenda Brock; his sisters-in-law, Pat Register, Elsie Hornsby (Donald) and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the Chesapeake Retirement Community staff and The Riverside Hospital staff.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Weymouth Funeral Home in Newport News. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Weymouth Funeral Home. Masks are required. Interment will be at Peninsula Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, Yorktown, VA. Arrangements are by Weymouth Funeral Home.
