Richard Lee Lash Sr., 87, Illustrator With the CIA for More Than 37 Years

WILLIAMSBURG — Richard L. Lash Sr., 87, peacefully passed away Saturday, July 31, 2021, at his home. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 66 years, Joy; and five adult children, Richard, Teresa, Diane, Michael and Patrick, as he joined his oldest granddaughter, Tiffany, in heaven.

Richard was a dedicated brother to Raymond A. Lash and Betty Lou Masaitis as well as an amazing father-in-law to Leslie Lash, Ralph Lumsden, Steven Decker, Sandra Lash and Patty Lash. He was “Pop Pop” to his nine grandchildren, Ryan, Tiffany, Tara, Brittany, Campbell, Brandi, Paige, Morgan and Colin; and four great-grandchildren, Nadia, James, Oakley and Logan. He also loved his niece and nephews, Steve, Russell and Valerie, as if they were his own children.

Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1956, and he was a talented illustrator at the Central Intelligence Agency, where he worked for over 37 years. His hobbies included drawing, painting, wood carving, fishing, and daily crosswords and Sudoku puzzles.

He was a dedicated husband and an incredible father, and his countless friends, young and old, felt so lucky to know him.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 20, at Hall Funeral Home, 140 S. Nursery Ave., Purcellville.
