Mary R. Warren, 99, worked in the War Manpower Commission at Langley Field during World War II

NEWPORT NEWS — Mary R. Warren passed away Friday, Feb. 12, 2021, at the age of 99. She was a native of Waynesville, North Carolina, and had been a Peninsula resident for over 50 years.

Mary retired from the Chase Bag Company in 1986 after 25 years of service. She worked in the War Manpower Commission at Langley Field during World War II. Mary was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Newport News. She loved bingo and was very independent and strong-willed. She was a loving daughter, wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Posey and Bertha Haynes; daughters, Ernestine S. Woodard and Joann McCracken; and grandsons, Timothy Robbins and Wayne Street.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda R. Robbins (Wayne Sauer) of Williamsburg; son, Jerry E. Warren (Karin) of Yorktown; grandchildren, Jay Warren, Tammy Frazer, Tina Gordon, Christine Woodard, Steve Street, Randy McCracken and Darlene Locklear; great-grandchildren, Bella Frazer and Ashley Gordon; two brothers, Charles and Jack Haynes; and one sister, Martha Greer, all of Waynesville, North Carolina.

A private graveside service will be held Monday, Feb. 15, at Parklawn Memorial Park. Facial masks and social distancing will be required.
