TOANO — Heaven gained another angel Friday, Sept. 4, 2020, when Doris Viola Taylor, 77, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Dec. 26, 1942, in Toano to the late Tunis Taylor Sr. and Pearl Brown Taylor.
Doris was the oldest of six. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Tunis “Butch” Taylor Jr., Paul Taylor and Ronald Taylor.
Doris graduated with the Class of 1961 from Bruton Heights High School, Williamsburg. She retired from the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools. Doris enjoyed working with children. She especially loved to bake her pound cakes, which many people grew to love.
She was a lifelong member of Chickahominy Baptist Church, where she served as a deacon. She was a devoted servant of the Lord and continually praised him.
On Aug. 12, 1961, Doris was united in holy matrimony to Osborne Taylor Sr. They enjoyed 59 years of happiness together. Some of her favorite moments were vacations to Nags Head with Os. They would sit on the balcony together, watch the dolphins and eat seafood. She was a devoted and proud mother, loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Doris loved her family dearly. She was her happiest when they were all together. We praise God for the life she lived and the lives she touched!
Cherishing her precious memories are three children, Osborne Taylor Jr. (Diane), Jarrett Taylor (Leticia) and LeShane Lawson (Chris); four grandchildren, Jessica Islas, Dana Taylor, Osborne Taylor III and Kemora Taylor; two great-grandchildren, Avery Farrell and Brayden Boone; three sisters, Jean Taylor, Latonya Mason (Clovis) and Pamela Smith (Alvin); one sister-in-law, Debra Taylor; two aunts, Georgia Brown Braxton and Evelyn Brown; nine nieces and nephews, Alisa (Glen), Leon Jr., RaShon (Melandy), Rhonda, Yolanda, Demetria, Tyrone, Dawanaca and Corey; cousins; and a host of other loving relatives and many caring friends.
Mrs. Taylor may be viewed from 1 to 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 10, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. Face masks and social distancing will be required. Services will be livestreamed at noon Friday, Sept. 11.
