Ann June Bacon, 102, enjoyed a 41-year career as an educator

WILLIAMSBURG — Ann June Bacon, 102, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away in her sleep to be with her Lord Monday, Aug. 17, 2020.

Ann was born June 15, 1918, in Taylor, Pennsylvania, to the late David and Margaret Evans. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward H. Bacon; and sister, Margaret Nezlo.

Ann graduated from Bloomsburg State Teachers College in 1939 with a degree in elementary education and began her 41-year career as a school teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in the rural mountains of Pennsylvania.

She married her husband, Edward, in 1945, and they were blessed to welcome their daughter, Barbara, in 1949. After her husband’s death in 1961, she continued teaching until her retirement from the Fairfax County school system in 1980 as a single mother.

As a founding member of Sunset Hills Baptist Church in Alexandria, she was very involved with several committees, Sunday school and was a member of the church choir. She volunteered many years at the Alexandria Hospital and also loved tutoring elementary-aged students during her retirement years.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara, and son-in-law, Nicholas O’Dawe; grandsons, Colin (Miccah), Ryan and Patrick (Jessica); beloved great-grandchildren, Nolan, Luke, Langston and Sarah-Ann; and many nieces and nephews.

She was an avid reader, enjoyed all types of music and loved her family dearly.

A memorial service will be held at noon, Saturday, Aug. 29, at Bucktrout Funeral Home, 4124 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg.
