Tammy Edwards Byrn, 59, of Poquoson, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2020, at Mary Immaculate Hospital of natural causes.

Tammy was a lifelong resident of Poquoson and a member of Tabernacle Church. A proud registered nurse for over two decades, Tammy lived to serve and care for others, and despite a handicap later in life, continued to help the sick as a home care aide. Tammy’s fondness for her job was eclipsed only by her love for the Outer Banks, Bull Island Football, and most of all, the company of her friends and family.

Tammy was preceded in death by her biological mother, Edna Mae Edwards; adopted parents, Clyde and Mary Edwards; and brother Clyde “Bubba” Edwards Jr.

Tammy is survived by her son, CPT Jimmy Byrn (wife, Cassie Byrn); uncle, Astor Couch; cousins Bergin “Buddy” Edwards, Stephanie Debruhl, Lynn Burnett, John Couch and Mary Mihalczo; and countless other good friends, neighbors and family.

Due to recent extraordinary global events and the need for social distancing, a private visitation and burial will occur at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home and Peninsula Memorial Park. A celebration of life service will be held for friends and family at an undetermined date and location in the future.

In lieu of flowers and in memory of a career devoted to helping others, Tammy’s family asks that a donation in her honor be made to the American Red Cross or the Center for Disaster Philanthropy to help alleviate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Share online condolences with the family at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home and Crematory.
