Maxine Olivia Darden, 83, answered the Master’s call Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018. Her life’s journey began June 3, 1935, the daughter of the late George and Gracie Lee Britt of Severn, North Carolina.
She was a longtime member of St. John Baptist Church, Penniman Road, and served her church as vice president of the Pastor’s Aide Auxiliary. She was an avid bowler and participated in many state and national bowling tournaments. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Maxine leaves to cherish her blessed memories her daughters, Patricia Anne Darden and Pearl Christina Boose (Carlton); son, Chris C. Darden; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and many other loving relatives and a host of caring friends.
Mrs. Darden may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 10, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11, at St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. Walter Hudson officiating and the Rev. Robert Allen, eulogist. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will assemble at 104 Douglas Drive by 12:15 p.m. Tuesday.
