
Florence E. Wallace, 93, affectionately known as “Sister White,” went to her heavenly home Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018, at Riverside Convalescent Center, West Point. She was born Aug. 2, 1925, the daughter of the late Tyler and Mable White.
Florence attended Bruton Heights School. In her youth, she became a member of First Baptist Church, Williamsburg. She was joined in holy matrimony with the late Alton L. Wallace Sr. They shared 45 years of marital bliss. After marriage, she became a member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church, where she served in the Pastor’s Aide Club and the Senior Choir. She was also a member of the Pride of Grove Chapter No. 181, Order of Eastern Star and the Colonial Social & Savings Club. She was a loving, kind and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She never met a stranger and was loved by all who came in contact with her.
Florence was preceded in death by her siblings, Cawren, Reginald, Tyler, Doris, Lucille, Ardell, Viola, Raymond and Fred. Her legacy will forever live on in the hearts of her four loving daughters, Ernestine W. Barbour (Edward), Alvern W. Brady (William), Carolyn E. Brown and Jackie W. Lawrence; two devoted sons, Alton L. Wallace Jr. and Stanley C. Wallace (Thelma); seven grandchildren, Erin Hughes (Shawn), Brian Olvis, Ebonii Barbour, William Brady (Brandi), Kia Brady, Casi Williams and Jayden Lawrence; seven great-grandchildren, Emanuel Vann, Tania and Brianna Hughes, Ariana and Devin Barbour, and Kennedi and Morgan Brady; brother, Robert “Tommy” White; special friends, John Brown and Fannie Mae Drew; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and an abundance of friends.
Mrs. Wallace may be viewed Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 31, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at Mount Gilead Baptist Church with the Rev. Valerie Matthews officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at the church by 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
