Jeannine Marie Roure, 78, departed this temporary world to forever be in the eternal kingdom of the Lord Thursday, July 26, 2018, after receiving the holy sacraments and viaticum.
She was born April 20, 1940, in Des Moines, Iowa, daughter of the late Charles and Madeline Lockard. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Jack Lockard.
Jeannie attended Dowling High School and Drake University in Des Moines. She became a neurosurgical registered nurse at the Des Moines, Iowa Mercy Hospital, where she had obtained her R.N. degree.
She was an accomplished equestrian with multiple horse show championships, earning numerous trophies. She was gifted with a beautiful singing voice and the ability to play piano since age four.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Dr. Rafael A. Roure, M.D., who she met during his internship at Mercy Hospital. Her four children, Angel Rafael Roure, M.D., and his wife, Virginia, John Pierre Roure, and his wife, Heidi, Anne Marie Roure-Whatley, and her husband, Paul, and Paul Andre Roure; brother, James Lockard; four granddaughters, Virginia Marie, Lauren, Allison and Julia; as well as many paternal and maternal cousins and family members.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 31, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 2002 Laskin Road, Virginia Beach. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 1, with Father Cristiano officiating at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 5345 Virginia Beach Blvd. Interment will take place at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 4, in Arlington National Cemetery.
