David Lynn Michaelis, 64, retired from the Daily Press after 35 years’ employment

David Lynn Michaelis, 64, passed away Monday, May 28, 2018. David was a lifelong resident of the Peninsula, and was a 1972 graduate of York High School.

He retired from the Daily Press in 2010 after 35 years as an insert operator and trainer. He was a member of Grafton Christian Church and was an avid NASCAR fan.

David is survived by his wife, Diane Michaelis; son, Brian Clagett of Williamsburg; daughter, Ruth Ann Ahola of Weatherford, Texas; three brothers, Karl L. Michaelis Jr. (Anne) of Carrollton and Gary P. Michaelis and William Michaelis, both of Grafton; sister, Sharon Wellington (Jon) of Grafton; nephews, Joshua Caldwell and Cliff Caldwell; three grandchildren, Patrick Charles Aloha of Weatherford, Texas, Maxwell Ritz of Williamsburg and Katherine Diane Ahola of Weatherford, Texas.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday, May 31, at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, June 1, at Grafton Christian Church with the Rev. John Falk officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
