Don Batchelor, 79, passed away Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017. Don came to Virginia in 1957 from Rocky Mount, N.C.
He was employed with Warwick Air Conditioning from 1957 to 1987. He was a loyal and hard-working man who loved his job and never missed a day of work until he suffered a brain aneurysm. He overcame a cerebral hemorrhage and several strokes to live a happy life with family and grandchildren.
He was loved for his happy-go-lucky attitude. He got up every day singing and always had a song for every occasion. He also had a wicked sense of humor that kept everyone laughing. Besides his love for his family, he loved his home state of North Carolina, country music, coffee and oatmeal cookies. Even though he lived in Virginia, he always considered North Carolina his home. His favorite saying was “Carolina born, Carolina bred, when I die, I will be Carolina dead.” He was a member of Seaford Baptist Church.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Nollie Batchelor; sister, Dot Skipper; and brother, Mike Batchelor. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Vickie; beloved son,Scott (Lorry); grandson, D.J.; granddaughter, Lia; an outstanding sister and brother-in-law, Bobbie and Bob Jerkins; brother, Buck (Faye); sister, Jackie Jackson; special sister-in-law, Pattie Batchelor Dozier; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton.
