Sylvia A. Price, 100, of the 700 block of Alliance Dr., passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016, in Virginia Beach. She was born October 3, 1915, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., to the late Harry and Mildred Johnson.
Sylvia lived in the Roland Park area of Baltimore, Md., for many years. She worked as a personnel administrator for American Oil Company and later as an office supervisor in a pediatric clinic at the University Hospital in Baltimore. She was a longtime member of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Baltimore. Most recently, she was a member of Eastern Shore Chapel in Virginia Beach.
In recent years, Sylvia enjoyed gathering with her friends and playing bridge, which she played in the final week of her life. She will be greatly missed for her giving spirit, optimism and quick wit. Throughout her life, a very empathetic person, she always seemed to know what to say to give a person cheer and hope. She enjoyed life to the fullest and demonstrated to all who knew her how to live graciously and appreciate all people. Her passion for bridge was equaled by her passion for dessert and she lived by the rule of ice cream with every meal.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Ben W. Price; and also by her sister, Katrina Johnson.
Survivors include her son, Ben W. Price Jr. of Chesapeake; and cousins, Harvey Clapp, and his wife, Ann, their son, David Clapp, and his wife, Allison, as well as their children, Ella and Jackson, of Baltimore, Md. Also left to cherish her memory are her countless friends from Atlantic Shores and her Eastern Shore Chapel family, who contributed to her century-mark celebrations.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 19, in the Anchor Room in Atlantic Shores Retirement Community, Virginia Beach. A graveside service will be conducted at a later date at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Cemetery in Ivy.
Memorial donations may be made to Eastern Shore Chapel, the Employee Gift Fund at Atlantic Shores, or to a favorite charity.
