David Hoy, 60, of Hampton

David Hoy (Altmeyer Funeral Home)

David Randal Hoy was born on June 1, 1966, in Cape Town, South Africa, to Captain Donald and Laetitia Hoy. He passed away unexpectedly on July 6, 2026 in Ft Monroe, VA, at home on SV Rising Sun.

In the final years of his life, David fulfilled a lifelong dream by living aboard his beloved sailing vessel, Rising Sun, with his devoted wife, Joann. Together they embraced a life of adventure, finding joy, peace, and freedom on the water they loved.

David built a successful career as a software engineer, providing for his family while pursuing work he genuinely loved. He was a man of unwavering faith who loved the Lord and faithfully served as a member of Christ Fellowship of Jupiter.

David was a true Christian who opened his heart and home to people in need, forgave those who were hard to forgive, and believed that differing opinions meant great conversation, not an end to friendship.

David was a member of the Palm Beach Sailing Club, the Salty Dawg Sailing Association, and Tri-a-Tri. Through these communities, he pursued his greatest passions—sailing, competing in triathlons, and sharing the Gospel with anyone willing to listen.

David had an insatiable curiosity and was a lifelong learner. In quieter moments, he enjoyed reading science fiction, watching British comedies, preparing meals for those he loved, and loving on his Rottweilers. He will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, steadfast faith, strong convictions, and the love he shared with his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.

David was preceded in death by his father, Captain Donald Hoy, who passed away on July 7, 1983. In recent years, David also mourned the loss of his beloved Rottweiler, Bear, whose companionship brought him great joy.

David is survived by his loving mother, Laetitia Diedrich; his sister, Fiona Soukup; his brother, Lane Hoy; his devoted wife, Joann Hoy; and his beloved daughters: Samantha Hoy, Jennifer Hoy, and Letitia Hoy.

He also leaves behind Ellie, his faithful Rottweiler or as he called her, his ‘little princess’.

With unwavering faith in Christ, David looked forward to the promise of eternal life. His family finds comfort in knowing that he is now rejoicing in Heaven, reunited with his father and all those he loved who have gone before him, and those who are yet to join him.

A celebration of life will be held in Jupiter, Fl, at a later date.
