George E. Swanson, age 81, of Williamsburg, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2016.
He was born on September 19, 1934 in Havaford, PA. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years in Alaska, Thailand, Philippines, and several Air Force Bases in the U.S.
Upon his retirement, he worked for Montgomery Wards and later opened his own business, Lamp Services of Tidewater, for 12 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was president of the Williamsburg Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation from 2001-2011. He was a member of the James River Rod and Gun Club for many years. He loved to cook and was Club Steward for several years.
He was preceded in death by his three children, Sherrill A. Swanson, Perry L. Swanson, and Dean A. Swanson, all of Mt. Holly, NJ. George is affectionately remembered by his wife, Elaine, who is grateful for their 25 years of marriage. He is also survived by a grandson, Ryan and his fiancée Michelle and their three children of Lumberton, NJ and also a grandson Evan and his fiancée Elise of Mt. Holly, NJ.
A Memorial Service to celebrate George’s life will be held at Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 500 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 13, 2016.
Inurnment will be held at a later date at Bayside Cemetery, Laconia, NH.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hospice House of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Pkwy, Williamsburg, VA 23188 or to Williamsburg United Methodist Church.
