Owen Wesley Myers, 93, avid farmer who shared his crops with neighbors

owen myersOwen Wesley Myers, 93, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2015.

A native of Long Island, VA, he was a peninsula resident since 1952. He proudly served in the U.S. Marines during World War II and fought in the Pacific. He was an avid farmer and hunter and enjoyed sharing his crops with friends and neighbors in Seaford.

Mr. Myers was a member of Providence United Methodist Church (Dare, VA) and the Fidelity Men’s Bible Class. He retired from Newport News Shipbuilding in 1985 as a shipfitter after participating in the assembly of many of our nations ships for over 30 years.

Mr. Myers was preceded in death by his wife Julia and is survived by his son Jim and wife Lisa of Seaford. He leaves to cherish his memory two grandchildren, who he dearly loved; Jennifer who currently resides in St. Petersburg, FL and Brad who currently resides in Bridgewater, Va. He is survived by two sisters, Arlene Dawson of Nathalie, VA and Ruby Sanderson of Bedford, VA, as well as nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at Amory Funeral Home at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 21. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22 at Providence United Methodist Church, 113 Old Dare Road, Dare, VA.

Memorial donations in Mr. Myers memory may be made to Providence United Methodist Church.
