Mary Elizabeth O’Connell Fresquez, 62, an accomplished horse trainer who loved the outdoors

mary fresquezMary E. Fresquez, 62, left this world after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Left to carry her memories are son Simon Ricardo Fresquez and wife Amy of Oxnard, CA with their soon-to-be first child; her daughter Shannon Marie Rowley and husband Jared of Sweetwater, Texas; granddaughters Marilyn Fresquez, Isabella Nevaeh Rowley and Mila Grace Rowley; brothers Nick O’Connell of Williamsburg, and Andrew O’Connell of Barhamsville; and sister Jamie O’Connell, Erdt of Auburn, WA.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Edmund and Barbara O’Connell of Williamsburg; and sister Jody Sanchez of Santa Fe, NM.

Fiercely independent, Mary sought out open spaces, which brought her to move to Northern New Mexico. She would spend weeks on horseback in the mountains of Northern New Mexico and southern Colorado.

She was also an accomplished horse trainer who could break horses with the best. Mary is best remembered for the love of her children, love of the outdoors, her love of animals, and her amazing meals she prepared for her family. Those whose lives she touched are forever changed. Godspeed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to help fight breast cancer.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
