Susie King Sheldon, 90, longtime faithful member of Williamsburg UMC

Susie King Sheldon died peacefully Dec. 28, 2014, at Patriots Colony Spring House nursing home in Williamsburg. She was 90.

Sue was born June 14, 1924, the daughter of Annie and Esther King, on a small farm near Sunny Side in Cumberland County. She was preceded in death by her best friend and husband of 67 years, Oscar Cecil “Mike” Sheldon; a loving daughter-in-law, Jean Sheldon; a sister, Polly; three brothers, Booker, E.N. and Caroll King; and sisters-in-law, Roxie, Ida, Virginia and Francis Sheldon, Nellie Stonnell, Helen Jennings and Evlyn King.

She is survived by her son, Sidney “Mickey” Sheldon and wife, Elaine; two grandsons, Steven Sheldon and his wife, Sharon, of Dolphin and David Sheldon, of Center Cross; two great-grandchildren, Sarah Howerton, of Dolphin and Jonathan Sheldon, of Kingsport, Tennessee; one step-great-granddaughter, Whitney Davis, of Raleigh, North Carolina; one step-great-grandson, Chase Mayer, of King and Queen; a beloved sister, Phyllis “Philly” Landrum, of Richmond; sister-in-law, Dorothy “Dot” King, of Red Oak; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Sue was a longtime faithful member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church where she enjoyed many dear friends. During her lifetime, Sue especially enjoyed being a homemaker, family get-togethers, fishing with family and traveling with her husband, Mike.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, at Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 500 Jamestown Rd., Williamsburg with burial immediately following at James City Chapel Cemetery in Norge.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Williamsburg United Methodist Church, 500 Jamestown Rd., Williamsburg, VA 23185.
