
Marjorie A. Gray died Oct. 30, 2014, at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center. She was 83.
She was born Oct. 11, 1931, in James City County, daughter of the late Thomas and Annie Armstead (nee Russell). Mrs. Gray retired as a cafeteria worker from Williamsburg/James City County public schools. She loved to cook for her family and friends, loved flowers and gardening, but most of all she enjoyed the time she spent with the Joy Fellowship Group (Senior Bible Study Group). She loved to travel and one of her favorite activities was attending various gospel music programs locally and across the region.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond R. Gray Sr. and her son, Alfred Jerome Gray.
Marjorie is survived by her sons, Alvin Armstead (Juanita), Michael Gray (Angela) and Raymond Gray Jr. (Beatrice); daughters, Phyllis Gabbin, Cynthia Wilkes (Tilton), Annie Van Hook (Willie Sr.) and Laura Finley (Eric); 20 loving grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Glen Armstead, John Armstead, Bing Armstead and Phil Armstead; her sister, Doris Brown; and a loving host of family and friends.
Mrs. Gray may be viewed and the family will receive guests from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 3, 2014, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronald A. Ellis officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble one hour prior to the service at 420 Carriage Road.
