Lois Geneva Kanaday, 90, caring, giving and devoted to God, family

Lois Geneva Kanaday, of Yorktown, died peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, Oct. 31, 2014, following a brief illness. She was 90.

Mrs. Kanaday was a native of Capels, West Virginia and a Peninsula resident for over 65 years. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother of six children. She was one of the founding members of Breakthrough Worship Center (Tabb Church of God) and a faithful Christian. She was a caring, giving person devoted to God and her family whom she dearly loved. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Joseph Carl Kanaday and a son, Ronald Lee Kanaday.

She is survived by two sons, Ray Buford Kanaday, of Gloucester and Joseph Roger Kanaday and his wife, Rebecca, of Gloucester; three daughters, Ellen Kanaday Belch, of Yorktown, Frances Kanaday Schultz and her husband, Fred, of Gloucester and Kathy Annette Kanaday and her husband, Robert Gordon, of Gloucester; three sisters, Lula Insley, of Gloucester, Grathel Faw, of Parma, Ohio and Edith Christian, of Mullins, West Virginia; nine grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

A private family ceremony was held.
