
Mary Johnson Gilchrist, blessed wife, mother and true friend, of Williamsburg, died Oct. 31, 2014, at the age of 84.
She was the daughter of the late H. Aubrey and Alvah Gray Ford and sister of the late H. Aubrey Ford, Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, J. W. Stuart Gilchrist Jr.; son, H. Victor Gilchrist (Kathy); daughter, Mary Gray Sachtjen (Barry); son, J.W. Stuart Gilchrist III (Susan); grandchildren, Kathleen B. Gilchrist, S. Gray Gilchrist (Emily), Brian W. Sachtjen and James M. Sachtjen, USMC; step-grandchildren, Kasha Mustin Herek (Bryan) and Josh Mustin (Lauren); and step-great-grandchild, Suzie Mustin Herek.
She was a graduate of St. Catherine’s School, chosen as captain of the Whites in 1948 and then graduated from Sweet Briar College in 1952. She loved sharing her memories of the “happiest days of her life” spent over six summers at Camp Okahawis in Rockbridge Baths where she was awarded Camp Spirit in 1947. She was co-founder of CASA of the Northern Neck and The Camp Okahawis Scholarship Fund.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014, at Historic Christ Church, Irvington. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014, at Williamsburg Landing, 5700 Williamsburg Landing Dr., Williamsburg, VA 23185.
