WILLIAMSBURG — Busch Gardens Williamsburg (BGW) has announced the expected opening date for its newest roller coaster, Pantheon.

On Wednesday, Sept. 8, BGW officially announced that it plans on opening the highly-anticipated roller coaster in March 2022. While the date was previously rumored, it was not officially announced until Wednesday.

The record-breaking roller coaster manufactured by Liechtenstein-based Intamin is themed for the Roman gods: Pluto, Mercury, Jupiter, Minerva and Neptune, which track elements that are inspired by each god’s mythical powers. According to the release, the coaster features two inversions, four launches, five air-time hills, a 95-degree drop, reach a height of around 180 feet, and a top speed of 73 mph.

While Pantheon was originally supposed to open for the 2021 season, it was delayed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Pantheon will be an incredible addition to our world class coaster lineup, and showcase our dedication to bringing innovative, exciting new rides to the park,” said BGW Park President Kevin Lembke. “As with so many others, we faced unprecedented challenges over the past two years, resulting in delays to the scheduled opening. We are so grateful for the excitement and patience of our guests, as the March 2022 opening of Pantheon marks an exciting new page in the story of Busch Gardens.”
