WILLIAMSBURG — To combat the dangers of drunk driving, the Gweedo Memorial Foundation has teamed up with LifeSafer to provide a New Year’s Eve day event that showcases new technology geared towards teen driver safety.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 31, The Gweedo Memorial Foundation will host a teen and safety technology showcase. Parents and teens can ride in a car outfitted with the organization’s new Intelligent Speed Assistance Technology. The new technology aims to prevent speeding in teenage drivers.
The Gweedo Memorial Foundation was founded by Tammy Guido McGee after her son Conner was killed coming home from his homecoming dance in Yorktown. While Conner’s death was caused by an unlicensed driver, McGee has been advocating for safer roads and teen driver safety across the board in his memory.
In the evening, McGee is hosting a New Year’s Eve party dubbed “Keys to the Future.” Located at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Williamsburg, the evening will be an ’80s-themed party beginning at 5 p.m.
“New Year’s Eve is all about celebrating life and new beginnings — and that’s exactly what this event represents. ‘Keys to the Future’ is more than a party; it’s a reminder that every teen deserves the chance to grow up safely. We’re combining fun, innovation, and purpose to start 2026 saving lives,” McGee said.
The event will have food and drinks, cash bars, a champagne toast, a midnight balloon drop, prizes for the best ’80s attire, silent auctions and music will be provided by DJ Dreux.
Taking the stage from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. will be The Deloreans, one of the Hampton Roads region’s premier ’80s tribute bands.
Tickets are on sale now through McGee by emailing gweedomemorialfoundation@gmail.com or by calling 757-812-4455.
