Sweeta’s Teas Growing a Community One Cup at a Time

WILLIAMSBURG — Sweeta’s Teas is a new loose-leaf tea business that aims to bring comfort and wellness into people’s lives.

Owner Freda Keller has worked in the restaurant industry for over 20 years and started Sweeta’s Teas at a time when she was not feeling her best. Health issues led her to try Dandelion tea, and over time, she found her symptoms improved. The experience changed how she saw tea, not only as a drink but as something deeply supportive of her health.

Later, she had the opportunity to work at a tea house in Santa Fe, where she then began to learn about and immerse herself in everything tea — including where it comes from, how it’s blended, why it’s been valued for centuries and more.

Her own healing journey, combined with professional career experience, led her to launch Sweeta’s Teas at the Williamsburg Farmers Market.

“I love tea because there’s a tea for every moment in your life,” Keller said. “Whether you’re starting early in the morning and you need a pick-me-up, or you need to slow down in the evening to calm, or comfort during the hard times. Tea to me is like a personal hug in a mug, that’s what I say a lot to my clients.”

Currently, Sweeta’s Teas offers 13 different tea blends and is growing with a mix of caffeinated and decaffeinated options. Varieties range from nut and fruit blends and herbal blends, not just tea blends. These blends are available year-round, and Keller will also make seasonal specials, as well.

She has also collaborated with other vendors, including a chocolate vendor who purchased some of her Earl Grey for chocolate. Keller has also purchased culinary-grade lavender from Sweet Haven.

Teas can now be purchased both online and at the Williamsburg Farmers Market

The Williamsburg Farmers Market kicks off Feb. 7 from 8 a.m. to noon. For more information on Sweeta’s Teas, visit its website.
