NEWPORT NEWS — The Hampton Roads Academy Student Philanthropy Committee is accepting grant applications from nonprofit organizations serving the Greater Hampton Roads community for its 2026 grant cycle.

The HRA Student Philanthropy Committee noted it will give funding preference to grant applications focusing on its five areas of interest: Arts and Culture; Economic Development; Health and Wellness; Education; and the Environment. The maximum grant available through the Committee’s competitive process is $1,000. Priority will be given to funding programs over operational expenses and capital campaigns.

HRA said the student-led Philanthropy Committee was established in 2021 and is comprised of twelve Upper School students with a faculty advisor. The committee has undertaken to research the needs of the community and educate itself on the role nonprofit organizations play in addressing those needs and the challenges they face, it added. Funding is provided through the Mary P. Blalock Philanthropy Fund at Hampton Roads Academy. The students vet applications received from 501(c)(3) nonprofits, and grants will be awarded to the organizations chosen on April 16.

Applications are due by 3 p.m. March 20 and must be submitted online at hra.org/mary-p-blalock-fund.
