WILLIAMSBURG — Locally-owned Running Lights Energy Drinks continues to stride forward with its mission to fuel better and push further.
The energy drinks are described as clean, effective, and made for people always on the move, and are made with natural ingredients, moderate caffeine, and a touch of whey protein as well as vitamins and electrolytes.
The product hit the shelf two years ago after spending a year in development, said founder Dr. Jason Romesburg. He got the idea to start the company after not being able to find a beverage he wanted to drink and feeling frustrated at the lack of better options among existing sodas and energy drinks.
“I wanted something that tasted good, would give me a little boost, but not make me jittery. I wanted something that I could feel good about,” Romesburg explained.
It started as a fun, creative pursuit, working with his children to try different combinations. From there, he decided to make it a more formal formulation and partnered with companies with experience in producing beverages, followed by finding manufacturing facilities.
“What keeps me going is the company’s mission (which) at this point is really just to try to inspire people to push themselves further. So keep your running lights on. It’s like a saying to just push further, you know, keep going,” he added when describing what his drive is for the product and the business.
Romesburg is currently juggling being a business founder as well as his work as a radiologist, saying the biggest challenge has been managing his medical practice schedule while also being available to grow the business.
One of the most rewarding things, Romesburg said, has been building a team of people who can help achieve his goals, rather than having to do everything on his own.
