Gas prices hold steady in Virginia, remain higher than last year

Although Virginia’s gas prices have remained steady over the past two weeks, they still are almost 50 cents higher than this time last year, AAA of Tidewater Virginia reports.

The average price of a gallon of gasoline in Virginia is $2.62, which is unchanged from last week. However, that price is 47 cents higher than what consumers paid last year, AAA said.

“With prices staying flat, it suggests that gasoline supply and demand are in balance for the time being,” said Georjeane Blumling, spokesperson for AAA Tidewater Virginia. “That’s not to say that we could not see spikes in demand closer to Labor Day as motorists squeeze in those final summer road trips.”

Virginia’s gasoline prices remain well below the national average of $2.86, which is 51 cents more than this time last year, AAA said.
