Two injured in Friday night shooting

HAMPTON — Police are investigating a shooting that injured two people Friday night.

It happened shortly before 8 p.m. in the area of West Taylor Avenue and Old Buckroe Road, authorities said.

Police said officers who responded to the scene found an 18-year-old Hampton man and a 16-yerar-old boy, also from Hampton, “suffering from gunshot wounds.”

“Both victims were transported to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries,” police said in a news release.

An initial investigation indicated the 16-year-old got into a fight with an “unknown subject.”

“During the conflict both parties displayed handguns and exchanged gunfire,” police said. “As a result of the shots fired, both the 16-year-old and the 18-year-old subject sustained gunshot wounds. The other involved shooter fled from the scene.”

The identities of those involved in the incident as well as other deatils were not immediately released.
